Dear CSPES Families,
Wednesday, June 9th is CLF appreciation day, and I would like to ask for a small favor.
Many of the people who make Chesapeake Science Point Elementary possible work behind the scenes and rarely receive the recognition they deserve. This year, especially, the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation (CLF) team, our charter operator, has worked tirelessly to support our students, staff, and families. They have spent countless hours advocating for our schools, protecting our funding, solving problems, and ensuring that our students continue to receive the opportunities they deserve.
As someone who sees firsthand the work they do for our students and school, I can honestly say that many of the opportunities we enjoy at CSPES would not be possible without their dedication and support. I encourage you to take a few moments to send an email sharing your appreciation. Send one message and include them all, or choose a few to message personally.
Here are some of the CLF team members who work most directly with CSPES:
• Mr. Yilmaz Ak, CEO – yak@clfmd.org
• Ms. Gonul Ozturk, Director of Academics – gozturk@mycsp.org
• Mr. Eric Derin, Director of Operations – ederin@clfmd.org
• Mr. Jason Karabulut, Director of Technology – jason@clfmd.org
• Mr. Mete Bayram, Web Designer
• Ms. Berat Can, Purchasing Assistant – bcan@clfmd.org
• Mr. Ashish Vadalia, STEM and Outreach Manager – avadalia@clfmd.org
-Adam Dartici, Photographer- adartici@clfmd.org
Too often, people only hear feedback when something goes wrong. Let's take a moment to make sure these dedicated individuals hear how much they are appreciated and how their work positively impacts our school community.
Thank you for helping us recognize those who do so much for CSPES.
With gratitude,
Dr. Tabatha Camacho

Since opening our doors, we have hosted a CLF Appreciation Day each year to recognize the Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation team for their support of our school. In the past, we have always handled this event internally. However, after last year's celebration, several parents asked if there was a way for families to get involved.
With that in mind, I wanted to share this opportunity with you—absolutely with no pressure or expectation. If you would like to contribute toward this year's appreciation event, you may send in cash or an Amazon gift card no later than Monday, June 8.
As many of you know, CLF has had a challenging year, spending much of it advocating and fighting to ensure that our schools continue to receive the funding needed to serve our students. Their dedication to our children and school community has not gone unnoticed, and this is one small way we can show our appreciation.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of CSPES.

Dear CSPES Families,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching, and we are excited to invite you to one of our favorite traditions—the 3rd Annual CSPES STEM Festival!
On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 PM, our school will transform into a celebration of learning, innovation, culture, and community. Families will have the opportunity to explore student STEM projects, enjoy hands-on activities, watch student performances, and celebrate all that our Tigers have accomplished this year.
In addition to our STEM exhibits, we are excited to once again host A Taste of CSPES: International Food Festival. This event showcases the diversity of our school community through food and desserts representing cultures from around the world. From halal entrées to homemade desserts, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Please take a look at the attached flyers for event details, menu offerings, and pricing. A few important reminders:
Event Date: Wednesday, June 3, 2026

This event is more than just a festival—it is an opportunity to celebrate our students, connect with one another, and enjoy the incredible community we have built together at CSPES.

🐅 Come hungry, bring the family, and enjoy a night of learning, culture, and community!

Our End-of-Year STEM Festival is right around the corner! As many of you know, each year we sell food during the festival as a fundraiser for our school community. Thanks to your support in previous years, these funds have helped us support families, provide additional resources for classrooms, celebrate our students, and continue enhancing the overall CSPES experience.
This year, while we will continue offering some of our traditional favorites such as gyros, jerk chicken, hot dogs, and more, we would love to expand our menu to better represent the rich diversity of our CSPES community.
We are looking for families who may be interested in donating food items for us to sell during the event. Whether you make a delicious dessert, have a favorite family recipe, or would be willing to prepare a tray of traditional food from your culture, we would love to showcase it and celebrate the many cultures that make our school so special.
If you are interested in supporting this initiative, please email me at tcamacho@mycsp.org.
Thank you for helping us continue building a strong and connected school community!
Warmly,
Dr. Tabatha Camacho

As we prepare for our final Student of the Month celebration of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to share a gentle reminder about the purpose of this recognition.
Student of the Month is intended to celebrate students who have demonstrated specific qualities and characteristics during that month. Classroom teachers thoughtfully make these selections based on their observations, classroom experiences, and professional judgment.
With hundreds of amazing students at Chesapeake Science Point Elementary, it is mathematically impossible for every child to receive every recognition — and that is okay. Awards are just one small way to celebrate students, but they do not define a child’s value, potential, intelligence, or future success.
At CSPES, we believe every child has unique strengths and talents. Some students may be recognized publicly through Student of the Month, while others shine in ways that may not come with a certificate or announcement. Growth, kindness, perseverance, leadership, and effort matter deeply, even when they are not tied to a formal award.
We kindly ask families to respect teacher decisions regarding Student of the Month selections. Our teachers put a great deal of thought and care into these choices, and we are grateful for the trust and partnership of our school community.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Warmly,
Dr. Tabatha Camacho
Principal
